Australia Sir Elton John Ridiculed But Not Defamed

The Guardian denied the allegations and claims, as an alternative defense, fair comment . L article, A peek into the diary of Sir Elton John recorded his thoughts about his imaginary AIDS charity ball. Counsel for Sir Elton alleged the article ridiculed his client commitment to charity, the AIDS and suggested that Sir Elton has the ball as an opportunity for self-promotion and meeting celebrities rather than helping people. Sir Elton John initiated proceedings against The Guardian for libel after it published a spoof article in July 2008 written by Marina Hyde. Recently, the High Court of Justice in London issued a ruling in favor of the newspaper The Guardian that promotes the protection afforded to writers of satirical articles from defamation claims.
